OS4B Yorkshire Employers Forum

This is a sub-group of the OS4B project. It is designed for Business Owners and Upper level Managers to feed back into the project how to gain the best from our development money by informing the project where there is a shortage of skills.

The focus of this group is about leveraging the benefits for Open Source for their Business.

It is not a private group and exists as a virutal group as well as a physical group. There will be quarterly meetings for the members to meet and discuss matters of an open source and provide their feedback. Some time will also be given to reflecting on what the group has raised discussed through the online forum.

RE: [os4b] Re: This great event

Hi Geoff,

do we have an ETA on a new version of the breakfast briefing event flyer
etc? Reason I ask is that Ingres UK marketing has just asked me if they
can distribute anything to help promote this.

Ingres is running a series of 'C-level Round Tables' around the country
focussed on educating BigCo about the massive cost savings offered by

RE: [os4b] Re: This great event

Hi All,

This is very specifically an "educating event" with a target audience of
middle and higher managers; particularly those involved in the strategic
decision making.

Kind regards

RE: [os4b] This great event

Hey,

Quick question, who are you aiming this at? Just so I know who to send
it to! Are you expecting any previous knowledge of open source or is
this aimed at complete novices?

Thanks,

Interesting Chinese Shanzhai open hardware...

Hi all,
found an interesting blog post about the Chinese Shanzhai - copycat /
hacking / producing+developing hardware - often viewed by America +
the West as illegal / infringing on IP.
Blog post talks of 'open BOM' - sharing bill of materials and design
materials used. Possible example of open source hardware development,

This great event

Hi All,

This is going to be the forerunner of a series of business breakfast
events we plan to run; and it really sets the standard by raising the
bar.

We would like to see you all there in support; but be sure to register
with us, because places are limited.

Kind regards

Re: [os4b] Re: The Carriageworks, Leeds TODAY at 3:30pm

Hi All,
Unfortunately I can't make it (I'm double booked), but thought I'd jump in.
Indeed it's not the first time, but from my mind, this isn't just any one
party now. All 3 major parties have now endorsed open source repeatedly and
publicly in a variety statements. Lib dems have been doing so for a while.

Re: [os4b] Open soruce & the government

Hi Neil

I've already blogged about this on reachfurther.com :) Happy to join
you as an evangelist, as always.

There must be a few of us with material for case studies. How about
everyone jots down some notes and then a writer volunteer can knock them
into something concrete?

Sorry I can't be there this afternoon. Have a great meeting
